The worst enemies of the pieces of furniture are often time and the differences in hygroscopy. They can still cause takeoffs or worse, the breaks of plating. The restoration aims at preserving the physical and historical integrity of furniture, this is why I attempt to make it the most invisible possible. Often it is essential the take the plates of the piece of furniture off. The damaged elements will be repaired, certain parts changed in the event of extreme need, preferably using old wood . A cleaning of bronzes, often gilded, makes it possible to measure well the need for a new gilding. It is often possible to repair the lock. On the state of leathers, for the desks or the secretaries, and on that of the tapestries of the seats, will depend my intervention. When with the broken marbles, they are restuck if possible. My concern is to work in the compliance with the deontologic rules of the restoration and thus to ensure the reversibility of my interventions to make possible any future restoration. The respect of the conservation and the inheritance of old furniture are essential concepts for a restorer. . |
